Event DescriptionYWCA Rhode Island is seeking volunteers for the Rhode Island - Girls Empowerment and Mentoring Support (RI-GEMS) program. Program Assistants will support YWCA Rhode Island employees working on the implementation of a project to empower young women of color to achieve academically and become leaders in their community.

The partners in this work include in this work the Rhode Island Department of Health, Providence Public School Department, Researchers from Brown University and others. The goal of RI-GEMS is to determine, through research and data, if YWCA programming increases resiliency and school success among 65 girls of color who attend two middle schools located in Providence, Rhode Island, over a 4 to 5 year period.

Volunteers will be responsible for supporting staff with implementing and delivering all components and activities for girls engaged in the RI-GEMS project. This includes forming positive connections with participants; leading group activities; facilitating day-to-day activities, as well as group opening and closing activities; acting as a mentor to program participants; ensuring all safety rules followed by participants; ensuring the physical and emotional safety of all participants; being creative and flexible, especially in regard to problem solving.

This is a volunteer opportunity that is also eligible for OCFWS $13/hr. For more information or to discuss the details further please contact Stefanie Argus, Chief Mission Officer, at stefanie@ywcari.org.
