This was the first time that Eric and I got together after Christmas break and it was a lot of fun. I got to hear all about his Christmas vacation and got updated on what he is learning in school. Erik was very excited to share some of the books that he had been reading in class and also wanted me to know about his birthday party coming up. I also started building a popsicle stick house with him and taught him how to play Rummikub. He absolutely loved Rummikub and by the end of the game, we had developed a set of new and "better" rules. Next time, we plan on going swimming!
This week was so much fun! Eric and I went to the Christmas event hosted by BPLP and we really enjoyed ourselves. We decorated an ornament, got to make a gingerbread house and then Eric played with a few of his friends from school. We also challenged another big and little to a pingpong tournament and had fun bouncing the ping pong balls all over the place. Eric seemed to enjoy having some time with his friends so I think I will make more of an effort to connect with other groups so that he can play with kids his own age.
This week, Eric and I decided to do an art project together. I had some clay left over from a project I had been working on and he and I made Christmas ornaments. It was a really fun activity to do because he kept thinking of ideas and I got to show him some of the things I had been learning in my art class. He ended up making 5 different projects and smiled the entire time!
For our time together this week, Eric and I played football, and soccer. Eric taught me how to throw a spiral and explained what a running back was. I thought that having Eric teach me something he was especially passionate about was a great way to get him to talk and continue building confidence. After football, we kicked a soccer ball back and forth and he really liked trying to score on my goal. After we finished playing soccer, I took Eric to the art building and we talked about a project that we will start next time we see each other.
Today was Eric's last day of swim lessons. He improved so much over the five weeks that I got to work with him and I was really happy with how he wanted to go first in every challenge I gave my class. After lessons finished up, Eric and I spent time in the pool working on diving for toys and cannon balls:) I really enjoyed seeing him loosen up and smile!
Today I took Eric to the Halloween Bash hosted by BPLP. We both had a great time trick or treating through the dorms. Eric dressed up as the Grimm Reaper and I was peanut butter. Our first stop was Coed and Eric seemed to really enjoy scaring people as he went up to their door. By the end of the night, he had a bag full of candy and we both agreed that it was an awesome night.
This Sunday, Eric had swimming lessons with me. It is our second to last time having lessons and I am so proud of all of the work he has done. It was especially exciting to see how he wanted to show more leadership during the class and how he responded more positively to feedback after the Big Partner/Little Partner event. Eric was able to demonstrate the things that I asked him to and volunteered to go first for other activities during the lesson. It was a good day!
