I always love going to Berclair and spending time helping in their library and with the kids. It is so rewarding and I might enjoy it more than them!
During this time I helped the Make It Happen Foundation put on their Christmas event with Evan's Elementary. We gave them toys, let them see Santa, and served lunch. This was a great time to help get children in the Christmas spirit.
During this time, me and my chapter made hundreds of sandwiches for the St. Mary's Soup kitchen. After that, I had the opportunity to take the sandwiches to St. Mary's and help unload and serve them. People were so appreciative of the few hours we spent putting these sandwiches together. This was a new type of service I have not done, but also such a easy and rewarding experience.
This was such a cool experience while in Las Vegas with Phi Mu's from all over the world. Clean the World will send you materials to pack hygiene kits and you are able to pick where you want them to be sent. It was such a great opportunity to do service with my sisters from all over the world. We made thousands and thousands of bags!
During my time at Berclair elementary, I helped in the library. I was able to help sort and scan books for the librarian as well as read to the class. This school is really special to me. I grew up in a school where everyone spoke English always, and in this school English is not everyones first language. I really got to see this and how people work through language barriers and teaching English, especially with being in the library.
I love being able to go to Berclair and read to young children. Many of them are learning English for the first time, as a second language. It is extremely impactful for me to have an impact on them. I would go every few weeks and read to a few 1st and 2nd grade classes and also help the librarian with book scanning, and other librarian tasks.
