    Kids' Life After-School

Helped tutor children with their school work for the first hour. Then played games and entertained them the second hour until their parents could come to pick them up. This after-school program is clearly loved by the kids and I had a lot of fun volunteering at LifeSource!

My sister Amanda Riedell partnered with the Beautiful Lives Boutique for her honors thesis study and asked for volunteers to help on their new re-grand opening in the new location. I helped her and the staff organize inventory and set up displays before the doors opened. I helped greet customers and maintain the food/treats table throughout the event.

I volunteered with BedStart at the United Methodist Church on Custer Rd in my hometown, Plano, Texas. BedStart is a nonprofit organization that primarily picks up donated furniture from homes and delivers them to families in need in the North Texas area. After I arrived on Saturday morning and listened to Doug's delivery plan, I got paired in groups to start helping unload trailers of couches, bed frames, tables, lamps, and other donated furniture. We loaded them into bigger trucks to be taken to specific family homes. My group got in one of the trucks to go on a delivery to a neighborhood in south Dallas. The neighborhood was a rougher area with many run-down apartments and homes. We delivered the truck load to a family of five in a second story apartment. When we walked in, there was basically nothing in the apartment. Me and another volunteer brought in a twin bed frame for one of the mother's kids who was so excited to get one. We had to assemble it ourselves, which was difficult, but finally figured it out. After carrying and placing the rest of the furniture in the apartment, we said a short goodbye to the mother, who thanked us, and we left to travel to the next home. While I have volunteered here in the past and my family has donated furniture to the organization as well, this was the first time I realized how blessed I am with all the resources I have. When I saw her son become so excited to get a bed frame it showed me how much I can take for granted. After this experience I am so grateful for all I have and will continue to support this organization in the future.

Scull Creek Trail Clean Up for Earth Day

I really enjoyed this clean up. It was just a small group of us but seeing how much trash we removed from the trail was amazing. From when we first got there, seeing all the litter on the trail was shocking. But after leaving, the impact we made showed how the environment needs people to change their habits. I also think its great how this is an annual event because it's evident the trail needs attention and help.
