This was a great project, and I'm happy to have participated. The project could have benefited from a bit more active direction (didn't always know what to do), more and additional tools (takes, trash grabbers, saws) but the group was still effective at cleaning up.

This was a really well organized clean up effort! There were snacks, water, all the supplies folks would need to do this job well and safely, and really friendly organizers.
It was clear to me that at least eight people use that park as their living space. Seeing the pain and despair in their eyes and seeing how much trash was in the creek were stark reminders of my privilege and how important it is to invest in ecological protection and social safety nets to help our fellow humans and shared public places.
Today, sweating it out cleaning up the creek felt like doing something that had a tangible impact va just throwing $$$ or my vote at a cause. I would encourage others to think about taking some inspired, physical action if possible. I can't buy someone else a house or manifest a support network, but we all could probably volunteer our time and bodies in a way that can really help. (And more than just once a year on earth day)
