    Arrey @ County Budget Hearing

It was a great experience. I was very nervous to be speaking in front of the Montgomery’s county council members. However, students and staff members of the ATPA program, Dr. Kelley, Dr. Pollard, and some of my friends were there to support me. It was kind of funny because I didn’t tell anyone I was going to be speaking on that day. When I was done giving my testimony, I thought to myself “aw man, I messed up.” When I later watched myself speaking, I thought to myself “Well, It wasn’t bad at all.” Afterwards, I received tremendous support from members of Impact MC, the Peer2Peer Program, Student Life, my friends and my family members. Everyone was so surprised because I come off as very shy and reserved, which I am. I try to challenge myself to become a better public speaker. It is definitely working. I have seen a huge improvement and so have many others.

Arrey @ Peer Educators Training on Opioids

I was very curious from the beginning. When I learned that we (peer educators) would be receiving training on “Opioids,” I was wondering “well, what are Opioids.” We received our training on Opioids and learned everything we were supposed to know. It was really interesting (and scary). That’s the best part of being a peer educator. You learn new things and get paid to do it! And of course, work with wonderful, supportive people.

Arrey @ Peer2Peer Program Orientation and Peer Educators Training

I really liked it. They provided breakfast and lunch for us on the 17th and breakfast for us on the 19th. They reviewed our job discription, explained what was expected of us and we all got to know each other. We learned about “Mental a health Disorder” on the 19th. It isn’t something that I had ever given much thought about, so it was quite interesting to learn about it. Since I have been peer educator, my public speaking has very much improved. Before, I could not speak in front of a crowd without trembling. Now I am very confident. All thanks to the Peer2Peer Program.

Arrey @ Impact MC’s Directory Kiosk Project

It’s been a great journey. We worked really hard on the “Directory Kiosk Project.” We did research, watched YouTube videos, created a survey, collected data, etc. it was very time consuming, but it is worth it. We presented our project idea to Dr. Pollard and her leadership team. They really seemed to like the idea, and seemed very impressed. All we wanted was their genuine consideration, and that is exactly what we got. We hope to see a directory Kiosk on all three Montgomery College campuses in 10 years to come. We will definitely be taking a selfie in front of it with #we did it!
