Another positive experience with the ESL classes
I was happy to be more directly involved in the ESL lesson.
I helped the ESL classes learn today.
I helped the adults working in the nursery with taking care of the refugee children. I supervised the children at recess, helped with snack time, and interacted with the children. It was fun to blow bubbles for them during recess and play with their toys with them. I am happy I was able to assist the adults in their supervision and I look forward to volunteering again.
I was able to help Anthony with his Eagle Scout project at the Ronald McDonald House. I powerwashed some of the outdoor patio area. I wanted to help Anthony because he helped me a lot when I was doing my Eagle Project. During the time I was there I saw a boy getting wheelchaired to somewhere inside the house. Having just come back from a Spring Break trip to Brownsville where I saw the immigrant crisis firsthand, I realize I need to count my blessings more often. I could be living in fear of deportation or spending my life in a wheelchair. Every day I need to thank God for what He has given me and pray for those that are in tough situations in life.
This was my first time volunteering for the San Antonio Archdiocese Assembly. I really enjoyed my volunteer experience not only because I got to hang out with my Liturgical Ministry friends but also because I always love seeing Archbishop Gustavo. His homily at the Assembly made me question Trump's decision to turn away migrants at the border. This is because my faith tells me to love everyone as I would love my own brothers. This was also my first time being an usher (if I'm remembering correctly.) I got to see a lot of my old middle and high school teachers and mentors, which was cool. I am glad I decided to volunteer for this Assembly and I look forward to doing it again next year.
I had a great time helping out with the children’s Halloween festival. It was nice to see everyone having fun in their costumes. The food was good too! I helped make the goody bags and prepare the tables for lunch. I even made a friend- I pushed him on the swings!
