This past Saturday I volunteered at a food bank in Pomona to distribute food boxes. It was a pretty simple task and I got to know some of the other volunteers. I heard their story, where they come from, and the reason why they're volunteering today. I enjoyed my time there and it felt good to be giving back to the community.
I returned to Pomona Hope today and I continued to help the kids out with whatever homework they may be having. It was funny because I wore my greek letters today which represented the fraternity I'm in and the kids were asking me about the fraternity and what were the parties like and whatnot. I had to tell them that the movies exaggerated a lot but the parties were still fun. I thought this whole experience was going to be a drag but getting to know the kids is getting to be pretty fun.
Today I volunteered at Pomona Hope as a Homework Tutor for kids from Kindergarten all the way up to 12th grade. I've always liked working with kids because they're fun to work with and unpredictable at times. The homework aspect was pretty easy to help the kids out with since their work is relatively easy but seeing kids struggling because their parents don't have enough money is hard. It was definitely a fun experience and it was nice to meet the kids.
On Monday morning I was given the opportunity to attend a meeting with my classmates on the corner of Grove and Arrow to meet some day laborers. Since I was the only one in my group who spoke Spanish, it was my role to translate for everyone. It was nice to meet some of them because I've always seen them around but never had any interaction with them. I came to see that they're nice and pleasant people who are seeking everything everyone seeks and that's a future. I enjoyed my experience very much.
