Melissa Schwab

Melissa @ GroW Garden

I love gardening and miss the work I usually do at home in the spring, so an opportunity to do so at GW especially in a city setting was a welcome way to start the week. I was also able to do so with my Theta sister Sara Currie which made the experience of puling out weeds and tilling the soil even more enjoyable. The produce that will be harvested in the future also goes to a great cause I am happy to support.

Gave 1.00 hour on 04/14/2019 with Courses: Community Engaged Scholarship, Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL), George Washington University, Kappa Alpha Theta, Panhellenic Association, Student Organizations, UW 1020 M 45 University Writing, UW 1020 M 49 University Writing
Sandwich making for Martha's Table- Theta and SDT

I volunteered with my Theta sisters and Sigma Delta Tau sisters to make peanut better and jelly sandwiches for donation to Martha's Table. I loved being able to spend time with my sisters for such a great cause to combat hunger with healthy meals and have fun while doing it.

Excel Academy

I volunteered with GW College Dems to go to Excel Academy, an all girls school serving up to grade 8 that is part of DC Public Schools in Ward 8, to paint murals with positive quotes and designs throughout the student bathrooms. Our group focused on a unicorn/pastel/rainbow theme with empowering messages. It was a fun way to make a positive impact on young girls as well as use my creativity and painting skills I haven't been able to utilize since getting to college.
