I was trained in how to assist and interact with victims of domestic violence and educated on ways to better lobby for HopeHouse as an organization.

I really enjoyed hearing about all the way I can continue to serve my community.
Today I made cards with my nephew (he is autistic and loves to practice being a mailman), and then we took the cards and put them in mailboxes around our neighborhood to brighten up their day (we sanitized them of course). It was very fun but did take a long time because my neighborhood is a few miles due to all of us living on like 3 acres.
Letters Against Depression matches those who needs support with individuals willing to hand write 2 page letters offering hope and support to those in need. This morning, I wrote 3 letters to be mailed out to my 'partners.' NSCS routinely works with this organization.
I spoke with the Northstar Tutoring coordinator for the Columbia Heights location to discuss potential ways to connect and assist David (my mentee) through this difficult time.
Letters against depression, in addition to having letter writers, offers other way to help as well, such as making notes, crocheted items, or bookmarks to put in with the letters. With my nephew, I had him paint notecards which I them wrote inspirational quotes over, as well as knitting flowers, hearts, and bookmarks. it was a fun and easy project I recommend others do.
I attended a GWWIB GBM that talked about several nonprofits, one of which was Women for Women where we then wrote encouraging notes to the women in the program.
I had a great time working with Chef Cheryl. She really emphasized the importance of remembering why we were there and was fun and engaging the whole time. I served cereal first then worked in the kitchen doing food prep the rest of the time.
David worked on math facts with me and drew me a $1000 bill, which I have put on my wall.
I had a really fun time this morning-the breakfast shift is definitely different than dinner in that you can interact more with the guests. I was on the milk cart, and then served pancakes. I really enjoyed my time there.
