Today, right as we got there the children were getting their snack. They ate Frosted Flakes and one of the little girls started explaining to me that she wanted to draw a picture of her house. So she got a page of paper and on one side she drew her house and on the other I drew a picture for her. After that, since it was nice outside we all got to go outside and play. I played tag, swung on the swings, and played soccer. I had a lot of fun and was glad I was able to volunteer and play with the sweet kids today.
Today, I helped the kids with many different tasks. Due to it being Fiesta season, the kids were told to spell out "Fiesta" and come up with a word related to Fiesta for each of the six letters in the word. I also helped a little boy with math homework. After the kids were done with their homework, they were allowed to color a coloring page. A little later, they got to paint maracas however they wanted and let them dry. While they were drying, everyone got in a circle and played a game that made you think. I had a very good time today volunteering at Peace Pals and love working with the sweet kids.
On Wednesday, we walked to the school and waited for all of the children. We then walked back and when we got back we helped them with their homework. I helped a little girl named Mia with her spelling homework for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. She insisted on getting her homework for the rest of the week done so that on Friday she could eat in the classroom and watch television. I helped her with any questions she had and enjoyed being able to help!
On Monday, we helped the kids fill out a paper describing their wishes for their community, theirselves, and the world. The purpose of this was to get an idea about what should be painted on the outside of their building for a mural. The kids wrote many inspiring things and had good ideas for the painting. After that, we helped the kids do a puzzle and hung out and talked to them. I enjoy volunteering at Peace Pals because the children are very sweet and love to interact with us.
