It's the last day of the camp. We went to Sandy Point Beach and it was so much fun!

We planned to go the zoo but because it was too hot outside so we went to the movie theater to watch "Lion King". It was fun!

I worked with 6th grade students. We had a STEM class and an ELA class. The topic for this week is "animal". On STEM class, students work together to build an underwater world using "Scratch", which I learned with students together. On the ELA class, students were asked to search for an animal they like and introduce this animal like living habit, size, diet and so on. The student I worked with introduced zebra and I encouraged her to draw a picture of zebra. She did not know how to draw and asked me to help. It was a bad drawing, though. During the recess time, I had fun talking with the students and I was more engaged with students.

I was switched to work with 7th Grade students instead of 6th Grade because no volunteer in the green group. I found it really different from the experience with 6th Grade because 7th Graders are more energetic and louder. The counselor needed to remind them to behave themselves every five or ten minutes. It's still a fun experience to learn how to play "UNO" with students.

I had a Civic class with 6th Grade students. It was an interesting class that students set their goals for next 15 years and make a timeline poster with their goals each year and draw a picture of every goal. One interesting thing is that a boy in the group I was assisting with put "Chinese" as the language he wants to learn next. I look forward for our next meeting.

Volunteer Opportunities at Kid Power, Inc.

The first day of working at Kid Power. We organized all the students to Lanham Skate Center. It was a fun experience to go roller skating with students and got to know the students in the class that I volunteer for. The counselor is Mr. James, he is a very cool guy who is always energetic in dancing and singing. After coming back from the trip, I was happy to play board games with students and it was interesting. However, I hope I could be more active to communicate with those kids and better engage with them. Maybe because it was the first day, so I was a little nervous about what I should do. But I can feel that students were trying to talk to me. I look forward to working with them next time!

The orientation was going very well. The staff introduced the organization and a month-long summer camp that we will volunteer in. They also helped us review the schedules, rules, structures, volunteers' responsibilities and class management, which were really helpful for my future work there.
