I really enjoyed this event. I admit, before attending I didn't know much about the event, so I didn't know what to expect, and was a little unsure. However, I found it to be a worthwhile experience as I was able to witness a strong and small (the event took place in a small town) community being held up by a few boxing gym/organizations. All of the boxing groups that came promoted giving kids and young people a way out of violence into the world of boxing. It really gave me hope and was inspiring to see humble people out there trying to make a difference in the world. It shows that you can really make a difference in the lives of others no matter where you are in life and with whatever resources that you have.
I also worked on some leadership and organization skills as I worked concessions and had to make some adjustments throughout the day. For example, figuring out a system to get every volunteer involved and keeping everything organized so that the customers could get their food in a timely manner and maintain food quality.
It found it to be a really awesome talk. I'm in the same company he was in and I vaguely remember hearing about him, so it just reminded me of knob year. But reminiscing aside, it really inspired me as I've been feeling a little rut with community service lately, which sucks because it is a passion of mine.
He should definitely do another talk again, or at least next year as well.
I really enjoyed this event. It was the first 5k race that I had been to ever. One positive was that the food was free. If I weren't graduating this year, I would definitely do this event again.
