Volunteer Opportunities at DC Central Kitchen

It was the last service this semester at the DCCK, and I really appreciated the process of being a volunteer there. Working with food was interesting enough for me, no to mention how friendly the staffs were at DCCK. This time I was assigned to sliding pumpkins, to make soup. I had lunch at the DCCK. It had been a wonderful period working with them and learning from them as well. Thanks a lot to this warm organization.

Surprisingly, there are lots of volunteers there during the thanksgiving break. And the DCCK also provided food that related to the thanksgiving. I was assigned to pickle the chicken breast and cover them with baking powder. DCCK was full of the atmosphere of thanksgiving, that contains lots of carings to the homeless, and I really love that.

I was first assigned to slide banana cakes(bread) in the morning for an hour. Then, I worked with Dorothy to cover the chicken with baking powder. There was a nice and fun stuff, who showed us how to make that work more efficiently and fun at the same time. I felt like a gold rusher that digging the chiken in the mixture of cheese and baking powder. It was really cool to combine work and entertainment all together.

It was my first day of service, I was assigned with the job of cutting squash. The was simple but boring at the same time. However, communicating with other volunteers while working was fascinated for me. After 3 hours of cutting squash, I felt exhausted, and satisfied. It is nice to have an opportunity like that to get involved in such kind of service and have a conversation with other volunteers, and I learned a lot about the DCCK itself and the process of volunteering.
