The Q Austin
I volunteered with The Q, a nonprofit organization "dedicated to building a safe, affirming, and healthy community that empowers young LGBTQ communities in Austin." I made packets of condoms, which included four condoms, two packs of lube, and an information sheet about safety and times available for free HIV testing. These condom packages are then distributed in the austin community.
SURE Walk
I volunteered with SURE Walk, a program designed to walk students home after 10 PM. It is a good experience. I feel like I help people get home safe after a night of studying. Even though this is a safe campus, it is pretty dark and scary at night so walking someone makes them feel safe and myself good.
Surewalk at PCL
Surewalk is a program designed to walk people late at night to their destinations. If a person feels scared to walk late at night by themselves after a night of studying, that's where we come in. I feel like this program is a very good way to help keep students safe on campus.
Greenhouse by Turtle Pond
I potted some plants and helped clean up around the greenhouse. It felt really good to help clean up a place that many times goes unnoticed by many of us.
Trick-Or-Treat for UNICEF
On Halloween, I went "trick or treating" for UNICEF. We asked for monetary donations that would help kids all over the world. This was one of my favorite volunteering experience this semester since a each and every donation as little or big as it was would make a difference in a child's life.
Blood drive with APO
For this event, I encouraged people that were passing by the blood drive buses to donate blood. It felt good when people asked more information about it and convincing them to donate because donating saves people's lives. It was a good experience.
