I enjoyed this experience so much. It was a great way to gain volunteer hours. While helping around, I was able to bond with other UT students who were helping and the shift flew by. I had fun while I helped around. I would definitely do this again when the time comes. It is a unique way to volunteer because you not only gain hours, but you are able to help your community and make a difference whether it was little or big. I would recommend this to other students as a way to volunteer.
It was a great experience! i enjoyed every bit of it. Along with helping with my shift, I got to see the lights as I was helping. I would love to do it again when the time comes around. It was a great way to gain hours and I also bonded with many other people. 10/10 would do it again and recommend this opportunity to my peers.
It was a great way to make a couple hours. I was asked to call students in the Texas area from a list that was given to each student who volunteered. In the phone call, we offered advice and answered any question that the new student would have about what it is like to be a student at the University of Texas. I think its great to give these new students a student to student perspective of what is to come in their first year of college.
It was a different experience because I was able to call students and give them advice on how it is being a UT student. I sat by a phone and was given a sheet of phone numbers and names and I called each students and asked them if they had any questions and if they didn't, we did a follow up on if they did the required steps before the fall and if they didn't answer at all, we left voicemails.
Upon arrival, I helped take pictures of each student organization and posted them on social media. I helped in directing those who donating to the table where donations were given and I also helped by letting students know that they could donate to their favorite student organization. It was great to see how much money the event was able to raise. I stayed for two more shifts after that and did almost the same thing and also took pictures of individual students who donated as well. During my last shift, I helped bring down chairs and tables and brought down balloons that were tied to tents around the main mall.
It was a great time! I met some great people. We were asked to stuff packets and write postcards for for students who were accepted to UT.
