Lead a presentation for middle school students. Talked to them about the college life and what it actually entails versus what the expectations are from their surroundings.
I put together bags for the homeless community and decorated them with holiday season.
Guided student panels. Had questions about the college life.
I volunteered at Inside Books Project(IBP) at Space 12. IBP is a nonprofit organization that was founded to collect donations of books to send to Texas prisoners. While here, I was able to read letters sent to IBP. In these letters, the inmates request books of their interest and we respond to them with a letter and books that match their requests as closely as possible. It was very nice for me to be able to do something that means so much to the prisoners. A simple letter to them serves as communication for them, and they need it a lot. I also really appreciated how they asked us to write to them using their first name because in the prison, they are referred to by their last names only.
It was nice to give back to the community. I helped stuff plastic Easter eggs for children of a youth center. I also took some candy of my own to help out and contribute to the cause. It was a nice experience to help out those who need it more.
We wrote letters to the army platoon and let them know how much we appreciated their service. It was nice to be able to give back to the brave soldiers.
This is an event that I have previously participated in, in which we conserve energy across campus. We got into small groups and traveled to designated buildings to turn off lights, projectors, computer monitors and other electronics that were not in use. It was nice to help save energy on campus.
