Today I gave my mentee a San Diego quick assessment. We then moved on and read an article, the one we went over was the It's official Everest just got taller. We then went over it again and I helped her with everything she struggled with in the reading and defined the words for her. We then concluded by going over the comprehension questions.
In our time we went over the "Ecosystem Superheroes: Sea Otters Help Keep Coastal Waters in Check". In our time together we managed to read through the whole article and he gave me a quick summary of what he read and I was able to define most of the vocabulary words for him. Unfortunately, we weren't able to do very much else simply due to getting to know and meet each other and ensuring that I wasn't rushing him in case he needed more time.
In this session, my mentee and I read through the article Big Bees of "Minecraft" Don't Exist, but Giant Insects Once Did. I then asked him to summarize it and asked him comprehension questions and to do the writing prompt. That took the entirety of the class as he was talkative and I didn't want to discourage him from bonding with his tutors, plus the conversations were definitely fun.
