Shoal Creek is located in the heart of Austin, Texas. This 11-mile creek served as the city’s original western boundary in 1839. Today, it is a major artery into downtown and home to the city’s first trail, which extends for nearly 4 miles from Lady Bird Lake north to approximately 38th Street. Over the years, conditions in and around this unique Austin treasure have declined.
In 2013, a group of community members formed the Shoal Creek Conservancy to improve Shoal Creek for the enjoyment of all Austinites – present and future. The Conservancy’s four areas of focus include:
• Trail: Improving and expanding the Shoal Creek trail
• Water: Improving water quality and reducing flood risk
• Parks: Enhancing habitat and creating vibrant green spaces
• History: Preserving and sharing Shoal Creek’s history
Together, we can restore, protect and enhance the creek and its trail, making Austin a more vibrant place to live, work and recreate.
