The Carter Center

About

Carter Center volunteers are the heart of the Center, providing professional and clerical skills, time, energy, and personal commitment to waging peace, fighting disease, and building hope.

Volunteers serve at The Carter Center in three main areas:

1. Most volunteers work one day a week during business hours on a year-round basis. Opportunities include clerical support such as mailings, copying, filing, answering telephones, faxing, computer work, and basic research.Trained tour guides conduct a limited number of private tours of the Center's offices for special guests by appointment. Volunteers also participate in our speakers' bureau for community groups.

2. Special events volunteers work in the evenings and on weekends, assisting with meetings, lectures, and parties, scheduled by the Events Office. These volunteers provide our guests with a welcoming atmosphere, information, directions within the facility, and any assistance to help events run smoothly.

3. Volunteers also work in the Center's gardens, assisting our small landscape crew in maintaining approximately 35 acres of gardens. This work is done during weekdays or on the third Saturday morning of each month. Work in the gardens may include deadheading and pruning the rose garden; mulching the gardens and bark paths; planting flowers, tulip bulbs, and shrubbery; pulling weeds and detailing; prepping flower beds; dividing daylilies and daffodils; and detailing the Japanese Garden.
