About Magee Rehabilitation Hospital

Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, a founding member of the Jefferson Health System, is nationally recognized for its outstanding programs in physical and cognitive rehabilitation, with comprehensive services for spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, amputation, and orthopedic injuries. Magee has been rated as one of America's leading rehabilitation hospitals in U.S. News & World Report's annual "America's Best Hospitals" rankings. Accredited by The Joint Commission and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), Magee was the first facility in the nation to be CARF-accredited in brain injury rehabilitation. Magee, in conjunction with Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, serves as the federally designated Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center of the Delaware Valley. One of only 14 such centers in the country. Magee has teamed with local sports franchises to form the Magee Eagles Wheelchair Quad Rugby team, the Magee Sixers Spokesmen Wheelchair Basketball team, the Magee Kixx Power Soccer team and the Magee Freedom Wheelchair Tennis team. Magee's doors were opened in 1958 through the goodwill of benefactor Anna Magee. Her generosity led to the establishment of Magee as the first free-standing rehabilitation hospital in Philadelphia. Today, Magee has more than 600 employees committed to the hospital's mission: helping patients to build on strengths for independence. Independence is achieved through a team approach at Magee. Each patient has access to a physiatrist (a doctor specializing in rehabilitation medicine), nurse, occupational therapist, physical therapist, speech/language pathologist, psychologist, social worker/case manager and recreational therapist working with him or her. Magee's unique approach to rehabilitation involves patients and their families in the goal-setting process. Traditional therapies are enhanced by other Magee services which include day rehab, vocational counseling, peer support groups, nutritional counseling, prevention programs, wheelchair sports and recreational activities. Community-based outpatient programs are offered as part of Magee's comprehensive lifetime follow-up system. Inpatient services are delivered at Magee's main campus located at Sixteenth & Race Streets in Center City Philadelphia. Outpatient programs are delivered through Magee's outpatient network, including the Magee Riverfront outpatient center at 1500 South Columbus Boulevard, Magee at Watermark in Center City, and Magee at Yardley.
