What We’ll Be Doing
This fundraiser is to raise funds to continue the rescue and upcycling spent mushroom blocks to improve soil health and biodiversity in the preserve.
Volunteers:
🍄 Rescue Blocks from 4 local mushroom farms and delivery to community sites like school and community gardens, plant stands, plant nurseries, preserves and more.
🌱 Mushroom blocks are used to for mulching—helping retain moisture, suppress invasive plants, and introduce beneficial fungi into the soil. Decomposer fungi helps cycle nutrients by spreading decomposing organic matter and enhancing fungal networks.
Why It Matters
By incorporating mushroom blocks into forest restoration, we’re:
✅ Preventing Organic Matter from going into landfills
✅ Supporting native fungi that play a key role in breaking down organic material and enriching the soil.
✅ Enhancing microbial diversity, which benefits trees and plant life.
✅ Connecting people to hands-on conservation work and the importance of fungi in healthy ecosystems.
This ongoing volunteer activity is a celebration of volunteerism, science, and community action. It’s a great opportunity to get outside, meet like-minded folks, and make a tangible impact on local ecology. Plus, we’ll wrap up the day with a casual fungi-themed social—because no good workday is complete without a little mycelial bonding!
