Bird Tour Assistant

At Mitchell Lake Audubon Center, we host 300+ birds annually on our 1,200-acre sanctuary which includes four diverse habitats for our wildlife: wetlands, woodlands, brushlands, and grasslands.

Join us as a Bird Walk Tour Helper and support our Beginner Bird Walk Tour Guides in leading engaging and educational birding experiences for the public. This role is designed for those who are interested in birding but may not yet feel confident leading a tour on their own.

As a helper, you’ll:

• Accompany and support the Tour Guide during the walk

• Help keep the group together and on track

• Encourage quiet observation and answer questions when you’re able

• Assist with binocular use and basic birding tips

• Learn how to identify birds and gain confidence in birding

• Observe how our walks are structured to prepare for potentially leading in the future

This is a great opportunity to learn the ropes of leading bird walks, connect with fellow nature enthusiasts, and deepen your birding knowledge in a supportive environment.

This role is intended for those who are interested in eventually leading Beginner Bird Walks. While there is no immediate requirement to do so, we ask that helpers view this as a stepping stone toward becoming a Tour Guide once they feel confident and prepared.
