Leadership and the Law Program

Dates: This program will run from 8-4 July 9th and 10th, 2025.  Additional cohorts will be added to accommodate night shift and other scheduling needs, dates announced soon!

Cost: $500 for 16 hours with discounts for fewer hours.  Scholarships available!
Summary:  The Leadership and the Law Program, offered by the Marietta College Public Service Leadership Academy, is intended for professionals working in criminal justice as law enforcement officers, prosecutors, attorneys, court officials, and other criminal justice professions.  The program is intended for professionals who want to advance their careers or develop their leadership capabilities. Topics will include developing core leadership skills, enhancing crisis and conflict resolution abilities, building team and community relations, ethical leadership, and more.

Goal: To provide leadership development opportunities to law enforcement officers and other legal and criminal justice professionals.  The Marietta College Public Service Leadership Academy’s values of Ethical Leadership, Effective Public Service, and Community-Oriented Problem Solving would serve as the foundation for this programming.

Curriculum:  Participants who complete all four courses will be awarded a credential in Leadership and the Law through Marietta College.  Courses can be taken in any sequence.  Courses are:

1.     Leadership Skills for Law Enforcement Officers

2.     Leadership and Community Policing

3.     Ethical Leadership

4.     Crisis Leadership and Communication

Ohio Peace Officers will also earn 4 hours of CPT Credit for each course, which are approved through the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission as Leadership credits, which count toward the mandatory annual training requirements under OAC 109:2-18-03.  CPT Approvals for the courses are as follows:

• Leadership Skills for Law Enforcement Officers (4 Leadership hours) - course number 25CPT1193

• Leadership & Community Policing (4 Leadership hours) - course number 25CPT1194

• Ethical Leadership (4 Leadership hours) - course number 25CPT1195

• Crisis Leadership & Communication (4 Leadership hours) - course number 25CPT1196

Requirements:  The Leadership and the Law program is open to all legal and criminal justice professionals, or anyone who is interested with an interest in the program.  There are no prerequisites, All participants who successfully complete the program will be awarded a credential in Leadership and the Law with a printed certificate.  Only currently certified Ohio Peace Officers are eligible for CPT credit.
