About Maryland Mentor Corps Celebration Day:

For years, Maryland Mentor Corps has hosted two distinct events to celebrate the impact of its literacy and math tutoring programs—Maryland Reading Day and Maryland Math Celebration Day. Both programs are rooted in the University of Maryland’s commitment to supporting youth education, and they have long served as highlights of the academic year.

In 2026, these two beloved events will be combined into one Maryland Mentor Corps Celebration Day, scheduled for Friday, April 24th, from 8 AM to 2 PM. This unified event will celebrate both the Maryland Reading and Maryland Math programs, bringing together mentors, volunteers, and students for a day of engagement, learning, and celebration.

Volunteers will help with event logistics and will interact with our Maryland Reading and Math 1st, 2nd and 4th graders throughout the day.

All volunteers are required to attend a brief orientation training session at the start of their shift. This training is essential for ensuring that volunteers are adequately prepared and informed about their roles, responsibilities, and safety procedures.

Attendance Policy:

  1. Mandatory Attendance: All volunteers must attend the orientation training session before starting their assigned shift.
  2. Arrival Time: Volunteers are required to arrive 5-10 minutes early before the scheduled start time of their volunteer shift.
  3. Late Arrivals: Late arrivals will not be accepted into the orientation training session and therefore volunteer shift. It is imperative for volunteers to arrive punctually to ensure the smooth functioning of the orientation process.

Thank you for your commitment to our organization, Maryland Mentor Corps and for adhering to this requirement. Should you have any questions or concerns regarding the orientation training, please feel free to contact mdmentorcorps@umd.edu.
