Street Sweeper Community Clean Up

Saturday, October 3rd, 2026 from 8:00am to 10:00am (CT)

About

If you've ever gotten a flat tire cycling in Memphis, you already know the problem. Now, three local organizations have a fix. The Memphis Medical District Collaborative (MMDC), the Downtown Memphis Commission (DMC), Innovate Memphis, and Street Fair Memphis are joining forces to bring the city its first-ever community bike-powered street sweeper: a free, hitchable attachment that lets cyclists clean Memphis streets while they ride them. No special equipment. No city contract. Just neighbors cleaning up their own routes.

The sweeper volunteer ride-and-clean event will take place on October 3rd — a celebration of the community that's been asking for cleaner streets by going out and making them that way.

Participants will have the opportunity to ride the sweeper and experience how it handles firsthand. Those not riding will participate in a community cleanup of the area.

We'll travel the route from MLK and Walnut to MLK and Danny Thomas, with participants taking turns operating the sweeper.

What to Expect:

  • Hands-on experience with the bike lane sweeper
  • Rotating operator positions so everyone gets a turn
  • Cleaning of the surrounding areas for those not riding the bike
  • Approximately 2-hour event
