Lemon Hill Stewardship Workday

Join Philadelphia Parks and Recreation's Stewardship Team for a volunteer workday at East Fairmount Park on Friday, August 14th, from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM. We will meet at the base of the Lemon Hill steps (see location here) and work around the steps and the nearby trails to clear them of trash, overgrown plants, and debris. 

This volunteer event is open to people of all abilities. Anyone interested is welcome to participate. There is a bathroom across the street at Lloyd Hall recreation center. Please bring water, sunscreen, and snacks as needed! We will provide the appropriate tools. 

This event will be cancelled in the event of heavy rain or thunder or severe weather conditions.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:

• In general, please wear comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.

• Sturdy, closed-toe shoes like boots or sneakers are required (no ballet flats, flip-flops, or sandals).

• We strongly recommend wearing long pants that cover your ankles and long sleeves to protect your arms.

• Please bring a water bottle with you, as well as sun protection and any snacks you may need. 

History

"Lemon Hill is a Federal-style mansion in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, built from 1799 to 1800 by Philadelphia merchant Henry Pratt. The house is named after the citrus fruits that Pratt cultivated on the property in the early 19th century."
