Description
Lafayette College collaborates with a variety of Community Partners to organize one-time service opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Students, faculty, and staff, can participate in a project in the Easton area, while alumni across the country engage in their own communities. Many of these projects will take place outside and the event will take place rain or shine. Transportation is provided.

This event is sponsored by the: Center for Community Engagement, Landis Center, and Director of Community Partnerships.

Volunteers will help prepare the community garden site for the upcoming growing season by disassembling pallet beds, assembling pallet compost bins, clearing garden beds for planting, amending soil, pulling weeds, and moving pavers. Volunteers will help to clean up the space at KIC Union. Though it is not cluttered, it is not very clean and needs to be reorganized. Volunteers can help sweep the floors, clean out drawers in the kitchen, throw away old supplies that are no longer needed and pick up trash around the center so that the children will have a cleaner, nicer space in which to attend the program

The EACC is having a special event in the Reading Room. The theme is Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Volunteers can help with reading the story and helping the kids with the chef’s apron craft. Each child will decorate their own apron. Volunteers can also help the children with book selections.

This project will require physical effort (eg. digging and lifting).

The volunteers will meet by the Lafayette Stairs, behind South, at 3PM. They will walk down the stairs cleaning up trash as they go. When they are at the bottom of the stairs they will walk to Bushkill Creek, behind the Spot, and clean up trash along the water way. This will be about a 2 hour project and afterwards we will go to the art buildings around 5PM for food, provided by the Environmental Department. Trash bags and gloves will be provided by PennDOT. Volunteers should dress appropriately for working outside, and should bring their own umbrellas and raincoats in the case of rain.
