The Carnegie Foundation’s Elective Classification for Community Engagement is a way for Colleges and Universities in the US to gain recognition for institutionalizing community engagement. Campuses that earned the classification in 2015 or 2020 will need to re-classify in the 2026 classification cycle in order to retain the classification. The American Council on Education is the administrative and research home of the classification. For the 2026 application cycle, application fees will be based on a campus' full-time equivalent (FTE) enrollment and instructional expenses per student, and must be paid in order to access the online application. The application will be available starting Jan 26th, 2024.

Several community partners have said they have not received the survey invitation. Others received it immediately and completed. Not sure how to check on what is going on with those who did not receive.

Hi George, it is the same way I have accessed it through the GivePulse website after logging in to my account. So, login, click on My Activity, then Purchases, then Carnegie Community Engagement Classification. Link to access is on page, but it would not open reopen tfe application to edit. |

Hello! The March 5th email update to applicants noted an extended deadline to submit the 2026 CE application to April 21, 2025, 11:59 pm ET.
This site (just above) notes Close Date "Apr 20, 2025 11:59pm or when items no longer available." I just wanted to clarify absolute cut off date for submission. Thank you!

Hi Christina! You can check if the partners have submitted or viewed the survey application/notification.
1. You will log in (if you are an assigned collaborator) and from your Dashboard select Activity > Survey.
2. Then you'll see the application and you can click on it and find Section 10 and see the partners listed.
