This pre-conference workshop is designed for both individuals and campus teams to come together to begin their Civic Action Plan journey. During our time together, participants begin creating a strong Civic Action Plan with a strong equity lens, discuss methods of engaging key campus leaders and receive expert consultation on implementation strategies. This workshop will cover the essential elements of a grant proposal, as well as practical insights on grant identification, the presentation of supporting data, conceptualizing realistic needs, articulating achievable outcomes, and considering how your grant will appeal to different audiences. Additionally, the workshop will engage distinct elements of the grant writing process, such as the introduction and needs statement, goals and objectives, methodology for evaluation, and budget. In this interactive pre-conference workshop, participants will learn about the fundamentals and research-backed practices of reflection theory and how they support student learning. Next, we will put this information into practice and build proficiency through hands-on reflective activities and resources in different modalities (including written, arts-based, and experiential formats) that can be used for in-person or online courses. Experienced panelists will share their experiences and recommendations for practice in administrative areas such as leading faculty development programs, building relationships with community partners, developing institutional support, assessing program effectiveness and impact, and engaging students in community-based work.
