Keep Austin Fed is a volunteer based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that gathers surplus food from restaurants, grocery stores, etc. keeping it out of the waste stream and delivering it to area charities serving people in need.
SPECIAL NOTE: In order to become a full volunteer, see our full calendar, and register for a food run, you must attend a 1.5-2 hour orientation which includes a 30 minute training session and ~ 1 hour of sorting, weighing, loading and delivering surplus food to a recipient. You also need to obtain a food handler's certification which can take up to 2 hours to complete (online). See the steps below for what to do next.

IMPORTANT: Look for the "Become a member" button underneath Keep Austin Fed's name. Click on this to complete your request to join Keep Austin Fed.
2. Register for a Shadow Run/Orientation - You can find them listed on the calendar below (located on the main Keep Austin Fed givepulse page).
3. Read the KAF Volunteer Handbook
4. Earn a food handler certificate – it costs $9.95 for 2 years. Please register your certification with us by filing an impact with this event Submit Food Handler Certificate.
5. Once you're approved for membership, you'll be able to see and sign up for all open food runs, marked in blue below.

Hey Ryan, I remember being confounded by the same problem. You have to log in with your email address and password, or the calendars with available food runs will be blocked from your viewing. The calendar with only the shadow food runs is what anyone logging onto the Givepulse KAF site can view.

Hello! I'd like to register for a food run, but my calendar lists no events other than the Shadow Food Run and Orientation at Trader Joes, which I've already attended. I'm all set with my food handler's certificate, and ready to go! :)

Is anyone available to do the Contigo run on Sunday? It's s recipient is Outcry in the Barrio. The procedure is to call Contigo at 2:30 to see if they have a decent-sized donation, and, if so, pick it up around 3 or 3:30. Phone numbers are: Aaron Hyman, manager, at 907 612 0094 (you can text him if you wish as this is his personal cell phone ) and Contigo 512 614-2260. It's your call as to whether a pick-up sounds worth the effort -- sometimes what they have is very minimal. Thanks!

I attended Give Pulse User feedback today and I learned much more. I had not been using this format here for messages and I had not been using the search for opportunities within the KAF group. I have been getting email from give pulse about events, but I did not remember getting messages from this wall to my email account probably because there have been so few.
