Women & Their Work

Women & Their Work is a visual and performing arts organization located in Austin that serves as a catalyst for new ideas in contemporary art. For 46 years, Women & Their Work has brought groundbreaking art created by women to Austin with exhibitions, performances and education workshops. A vanguard in contemporary art in Texas, Women & Their Work was founded in 1978, when Austin had a single art museum and women artists remained largely unseen and undervalued. The organization presents the work of women visual and performing artists in diverse exhibitions, performances, programming and education initiatives for audiences of all ages. In recognition of the quality of their work, Women & Their Work has received many national honors. It was the first organization in Texas to receive a grant in visual art from the National Endowment for the Arts and has additionally received support from the prestigious Warhol, Rauschenberg, Bloomberg and Ford Foundations. Last year, the organization moved into their permanent home in East Austin after a successful capital campaign and their archives have been acquired by the Smithsonian Archive of American Art.
