Volunteers/Interns work one Friday or Saturday night a month from 6 P.M. until 1 A.M. or 7 P.M. until 2 A.M. at one of the 6 substations throughout the City. Volunteers/Interns are at the substation to handle any domestic violence phone calls, people who walk in wanting help, and people officers may bring in for assistance. The volunteer’s role is to talk with people about what’s going on in the relationship, what help do they want, where resources are in the community, effects on children when there is violence in the home, and the need to have a safety plan whether returning home or thinking about leaving.
Interns may work more hours a month to complete the hours needed per their professor.

Interested students must complete an application form, and have no convictions on their record. References are checked as part of the application process.

Potential volunteers/interns must attend training to acquire the information needed to assist people.
