This was a great experience where I was able to give out pre-packaged bags of food to those in need and help them carry it to their car. I really enjoyed talking to the people that were also volunteering, hearing their story, and being able to relate to the people that came into the pantry.
On Tuesday of the Alternative Break Experience we went to the Waterfront Mission Thrift Store and helped with operations inside the store. I was put on furniture duty and moved whatever furniture needed to the storefront. In addition I sorted books, worked the drop-off door, and flattened boxes. I didn't mind the work, although not ideal, but the people treated us poorly and I did not feel very useful.
We picked up trash at the local Boys and Girls club in Pensacola, Florida. This was done through Keep Pensacola Clean, who equipped us with vests, bags, and tools and sent us to the site. After we were done we were also able to get a tour of the Club and meet some of the people that worked there. It was a really cool place with great selfless people. One afternoon, we were able to go back, meet the kids, and help with work on their computers. They were some great kids.
Good experience. Very cool organization and I enjoyed being able to be a part of it
