Gleaners is a food pantry downtown Indianapolis. I had the opportunity to volunteer there by myself. My job was to bag up the items that each individual got after they went through the line in the pantry. There were a ton of people and it was nonstop crowds for the whole 3 hours. This was experience was my first time at gleaners. It was very humbling and I can’t wait to go back next time.
I was contacted by my church to see if I was available to help clean out a house. A lady needed it to be cleaned out because she was put into a nursing home. So a group of us went over and sorted out different things with her family, such as clothes and antiques. After sorting the clothes we would put them into boxes and package them up. We also did some cleaning such as dusting and sweeping. We made a good dent in the process but we will have to go back soon to finish it up!
I had no clue what to expect when going to the YWCA. But I am so glad I volunteered there. During my 2 hours I helped sort donations of clothes for the women. I also helped hang up clothes and different items on racks in the boutique room. They have a boutique that they may go to once a week and pick out a certain amount of clothes. The amount of clothing donations they receive is amazing. They have an overflow room and the room was almost full. It was a very humbling experience and I am excited to back and help next Wednesday.
This was my first time helping at Second Harvest. I had no clue what it was until I got there but I am so glad I signed up for this opportunity. I helped package bananas most of my time there. I also got to be "trash girl". So I would take all of the trash from the banana packing to the dumpsters. While I was there, I also got a tour of the whole facility. It was way bigger than I thought it would be and they are even going to be expanded in size within the next year! I definitely enjoyed my short 2 hours there and can't wait to volunteer again!
During my 4 hours at Fall Creek Academy I performed various activities. Such as answering phone calls, preforming closing duties, and watching and interacting with the children. The closing duties included taking out the trash, sweeping the carpets and hardwood floors, wiping down tables and toys, and sanitizing various objects. I interacted with the children by singing and dancing to songs, playing legos, reading books, and playing dress up. I had a wonderful experience and cannot wait to go back.
I help Lexi with her power soccer skills. She is trying out for the Olympics soon so she needed help with her drills. Before this experience I had no clue what power soccer was. I am so grateful because now I do and can watch for her if she makes the team!
