As a first-year student majoring in Political Science, I participated in the Civic Engagement Project at Miami Dade College. During the process, I contributed to my society on Demographic Engagement, Environment and Sustainability, Community Wellbeing, Arts And Culture, and Social Innovation. The importance of helping my community and someone who needs it encouraged me to participate in the Civic Action Project. This project provided me with a new perspective on having empathy for others. Moreover, it made me realize how our planet needs humans' help to survive. My favorite activity from the Civic Action Project is doing an act of kindness as I could help my friend with her English homework. From my experience, I know how difficult it is to have a language barrier; when I was in my friend's spot, I would have liked to have someone to help me. However, I had to learn English by myself. Somehow, helping my friend felt like I was helping my old self.
