About

Join a team helping folks with limited access to good food start growing some of what they eat!

Green Corn Project is a local Austin-based nonprofit that has been educating and assisting Central Texans in growing organic food gardens since 1998. We have built over 200 organic food gardens at homes, schools, and community centers across the city, and these Dig-Ins are a primary way that we help others grow their own food.

Volunteers will meet us at 6405 S. Pleasant Valley Road in Southeast Austin to gather supplies for the workday. After that, we split into teams and go to one of the Green Corn Project gardens which are located all over the city. Location varies due to scheduling and we cannot disclose where until you arrive that morning.

Depending on the garden, volunteer tasks can include building and installing new garden beds, cleaning and weeding existing garden beds, loading and unloading materials like soil and compost, and planting new transplants and seeds. No gardening experience is needed. All tools and instruction are provided.

For volunteer groups of 3 or more people, please contact us at programs@greencornproject.org to ensure we can accommodate your group size. If you have any other questions or accommodation requests, send us an email.

If you are interested in becoming a Dig-In Leader, please attend our next training on Saturday September 12, 2026. Register on GivePulse. For additional information, please visit: https://www.greencornproject.org/dig-ins/.

CANCELLATION: We know that things come up from time to time and if you're unable to join us, it is extremely helpful if you cancel your reservation so we have an accurate count for the day.

Look for a gate opening in the tall wooden fence. There will be a Green Corn Project sign outside. Pull through the gate and be mindful of chickens that may be out. Drive in carefully and park to the left. Additional parking is available on side streets in the neighborhood.
