Sign-up here for ONLINE training to complete the IRS Volunteer Certification to work on-site at United Way's Tax Center, helping our neighbors file their tax returns for free.
Volunteers engage with clients and ask questions to ensure accurate and complete returns are filed, helping taxpayers access credits that they are eligible to claim. Throughout the process, volunteer preparers have access to on-site tax specialists to answer questions related to filing returns.
Once certified, you can volunteer to complete tax returns for members of our community and choose days and times that best fit your schedule, 8:30-4:30 Monday-Friday.&nbsp;
All trainings will be live-online trainings via&nbsp;Zoom with Judy Allen, VITA Director, conducting them.&nbsp; These trainings are for volunteers who plan to be Tax Preparers with United Way of Central Alabama. Once you have registered for the training, an agenda with the Zoom link will be emailed to you the day before the training begins. You WILL NEED&nbsp;a large or double computer screen, to watch class in one window while entering tax problems in another.&nbsp; (Two laptops could serve this purpose as well).
TRAINING MATERIALS: You will need hard copies of the training materials before you participate in the virtual training.&nbsp; These will be available beginning on&nbsp;Tuesday, November 29th&nbsp;in the lobby of the United Way building (New glass and stone building next to our original brick building; GPS address 3620 8th Avenue South, Birmingham, 35222).&nbsp; These materials and will be left out overnight for those that may be dropping by after UWCA&rsquo;s office closes.&nbsp; Once you receive your materials, you can email taxvol@uwca.org to let us know you have picked them up.&nbsp; You&nbsp;DO NOT&nbsp;have to register for all training sessions.&nbsp; Only one training is necessary, unless you would like to get an advanced certification.&nbsp; In this case, you would register for Basic and Advanced.&nbsp;
Recorded versions of these trainings will also be posted if one of these dates does not work for you.
