This week at X-Factor will be the same as last week. The younger kids will learn the rumba today with the help of the dance instructors. The other interns and myself will make sure the kids get checked in, are paying attention, and being respectful. After X-Factor was over, I worked the front desk until it was time for the after school program that started at 3:30. The kids grabbed a snack, did some free play in the gym until it was time for reading. I read 3 books with one of the kids until it was time for YRCC Chef Nite. This time I played soccer with the older kids. Once that was over I watched over the kids during free play until it was time for pickup.
Today at YRCC i watched and helped make sure the students were engaging in the Dance lesson that was being instructed today. I then began to work on Agenda lesson plan activities for weeks 6-7 and had to revisit week 5 to alter the previous agenda that i had in place.
The students had their dance session part 2. I had to make sure they stayed on task and payed close attention to the instructors.
- I came into the office and started working on my portfolio some more in being specific to my next internship position.
- Tenisha and I had a one-on-one meeting going over the past two weeks on what has been accomplished, how the internship is going on my end, what I have been learning in each of the programs I am apart of, and action items for the next week.
- For Kids Nite we took the kids to a Razorback baseball game, it was so neat to see how much fun the kids had at this. We sat in the Hogpen, which allowed the kids to either sit and watch the game on the bleachers or give them the ability to play and run around in a specific area. At the end of the game when we were headed back to the YRCC the kids talked about how much fun they had going to the baseball game.
The older X-Factor kids got the chance to do ballroom dancing. The dance they learned today was the rumba. There were instructors here to teach the kids so me and the other intern's job was to make sure the kids were paying attention, partnered up with each other correctly, and help teaching the steps when needed. After they were taught the ballroom steps, the kids got a chance to do freestyles.
Today, I helped a lady sign up for a pickle ball membership. I checked people in and talked with the pickle ball players. I worked on the summer camp schedule and the travel hours. I helped clean out the multipurpose room and organize it. I got the snacks and set them up for the after school program. Once the kids arrived, I played basketball and threw the football with them.
-I worked on my resume and cover letter, gathered together my certificates and projects to add in my portfolio. I researched what a cover letter should look like and tips on how to tailor it to a specific job position.
- I helped organize and clean up the multipurpose room with my supervisors and another intern.
-I asked questions about the Easter Egg Hunt project and how students should go about getting the supplies for the event. I relayed the information to the service-learning project students. Along with what we already may have at the YRCC
-For Kids Nite we had to mend some of the books for them to still be useable for the children. I was able to read with one of our girls and help her further her reading skills. With the younger kids, we had a scavenger hunt outside to try and find the things on a list and work in groups to get the tasks done. After this, the kids were allowed free play until the rental then move into the computer lap.
Today at X-Factor PE, the kids did something completely different which was ballroom dancing. they learned how to foxtrot. Many kids seemed to enjoy it. I mostly just helped the kids learn the steps, partner them with each other or sometimes partner with them, and make sure they are paying attention. At the end, they did free time where they showed us their favorite dance moves. Once X-Factor was over I worked the front desk until the after school kids arrived. At the front desk I mainly worked on my summer camp project outline. Once the kids arrive they get a snack and a few minutes of free playtime until it's time to read. us facilitators read with them until it's time for the Chef YRCC program. I helped with the Chef program with the older kids. When we were done with that a volunteer and I went in the MP Room to watch the younger kids who wanted to color.
Instructors from the University of Arkansas came to teach ballroom dancing to the students. I observed and made she the children were paying attention and being respectful. I also worked on the Spring Break Camp schedule and the Summer Camp Schedule.
-I continued to work on the meeting minutes using some of Tenisha’s notes that she left for me and the pointers that she emailed me for the next meeting. Along with starting some research on what a good portfolio looks like in order to start my own.
-I checked in the Pickleball players, renewed and created memberships for other members.
-After lunch, I started getting ready for Kids Nite, we had the children have snack/free play time, read or do something simulated to the brain. Afterward, we allowed them to have free time and played a group game. When the rental started to come in we moved the kids into the computer lab for the remainder of the YRCC hours.
