On October 8th, myself and my partner went to Allison Elementary school and we talked to the parents of the children along with other organizations and provided the parents with information about the Equal Justice Center which is a non-profit law firm that specializes in wage claim issues and discrimination in the workplace and we also help with D.A.C.A. which stands for Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals. We also passed out flyers about upcoming events that we organize to help people fill out their application in order for them to begin the citizenship process and I also answered any questions that people had. I very much enjoyed this experience because it made me feel like I was actually contributing to that community which is primarily Hispanic and is a school where a lot of students come from low-income households. On September 22nd it was the 15th anniversary of The Equal Justice Center and it was also a Peter-pan Mini Golf Fundraiser. I was fortunate enough to be one of the people who was setting up for the event and I also served food to our sponsors and donors who keep the E.J.C going since it's a non profit law firm that helps low-income families, workers, and communities to achieve fair treatment in the workplace, regardless of immigration status. This was such a great opportunity to do so that we could make goodie bags for the people who are in need. I also got to make new friends who were very fun to talk too. Most definitely would want to do something like this again.
Really loved working with the elementary school kids and hearing what they want to do with their lives in the future. Would definitely do this again!
I really liked doing the community service event because we went all around Zilker Park as well as on the other side where ACL was at and we cleaned up and picking up all the trash that was on the floor as well as on the playground and time went flying by. I went with my ULN group and it was really fun we really got bond more with each other and become closer to one another.
