This was an amazing event. A Walk for Education was an event put on by the National Society of Black Engineer professional and UT chapter to go into the community and introduce young kids to the idea of going to college. We were able to touch many underrepresented areas in Austin with this event.

It was a great experience. We were able to process 6300 pounds of food over the time we were there. I organized the event as the Service chair for NSBE. A contact at the food bank is Latoya Thomas: lthomas@centraltexasfoodbank.org

I was a part of a program where high school students came and got information on the Cockrell school and got to see what engineering life would be like here at UT. We showed them around, did a couple of activities, and answered any questions they had about what engineering actually is. It was great to see the growing interest in the subject.
It was and is extremely fun. Writing letters to the troops just to give them something to smile about is really gratifying. Hopefully this tradition continues.
